One of the great pleasures of touring the Willamette Valley is the incredible selection of small, ornate bed-and-breakfast hotels sprinkled throughout Oregon's wine country. In the summer and fall they can fill up quickly, as visitors come from around the world to enjoy wine tastings at the hundreds of large and small wineries. Many of these have exquisite restaurants right on the premises, with home-baked goods available day and night. There are plenty of larger properties located closer to urban areas and shopping centers, including upscale resorts with expansive spas, as well as national chains that are perfect for travelers who just need a place to lay their heads.

Hanson Country Inn
Hanson Country Inn
On a knoll overlooking the Willamette Valley, this 7,100-square-foot 1928 Dutch Colonial that was once headquarters of a poultry-breeding business now has a massive fireplace in the living room, many sitting areas, tall windows, and a sunporch with stained-glass windows and rattan furniture. Rooms have views of either the English garden or the valley, and the largest has broad views from windows on three sides. The cottage is at the edge of the woods and has two bedrooms, a full kitchen and a rear deck among the trees. Pros: flexible breakfast schedule, close to town. Cons: needs paint touchup and minor maintenance.
