A user fee is required May through October—unless arriving on the Island Explorer buses that serve the park and island villages from June 23 through Columbus Day. They are free to ride and also offer free admittance to the park. The per-vehicle fee is $20 for a seven-consecutive-day pass from May through October. You can walk or ride in (bike or motorcycle) on a $5 individual pass, also good for seven days. Or you can use your National Park America the Beautiful Pass, which allows entrance to any national park in the United States. Check www.nps.gov for details.
The park is open 24 hours a day, year-round, but roads are closed from December to mid-April except for the Ocean Drive section of Park Loop Road and a small part of the road that provides access to Jordan Pond.

Getting Here and Around
Route 3 leads to the island and Bar Harbor from Ellsworth and circles the eastern part of the island. Route 102 is the major road on the west side. Free Island Explorer buses serve the main villages and the park from June 23 through Columbus Day. There are scheduled stops; they also pick up and drop off passengers anywhere along the park it is safe to stop.
