Istanbul has two main train stations: Sirkeci, near the Eminönü waterfront in Old Istanbul, and Haydarpaşa, on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Trains in Turkey are known for being slow, but as of this writing, a high-speed train connecting Istanbul with Ankara and Konya was expected to launch within a few months after the opening of the Marmaray rail line under the Bosphorus.
