Electricity in St. Lucia is 220 volts, 50 cycles. U.S. appliances will require a plug adaptor (square, three-pin) and, if they are not dual-voltage, a transformer.

A 9.5% government V.A.T. is added to all hotel and restaurant bills. A 10% service charge is usually added to restaurant bills; otherwise, tip 10%–15%. Tip bellboys $1 per bag, maids $2 per night, and taxi drivers 10% of the fare.

The Eastern Caribbean dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of EC$2.67 to US$1. U.S. currency is accepted almost everywhere on the island, but you’ll get change in local currency. It's helpful to have some local currency if you plan to shop in smaller markets or ride buses.
