In Sardinia, there are numerous luxury resorts with stunning beachfront vistas, bed-and-breakfast inns in medieval villages, private villas tucked away on lush hills, modern hotels in the trendy capital, and farmhouses on tranquil mountainsides. During summer months, the most popular destination on the island is the Costa Smeralda in the east. High demand during July and August raises nightly rates to an astronomical range, above €1,500 for the most deluxe accommodations. Find more reasonable hotel rates in other parts of the island, which are equally breathtaking and less crowded. Plan dates well in advance, as many hotels close at the end of September until the following April or May.

Grand Hotel Corallaro
This Art Nouveau–style hotel with modern whitewashed rooms sits on the harbor in Carloforte. Front-facing rooms have harbor views, though there may be some traffic noise; those at the back overlook the small courtyard garden where a few palm trees grow. Avoid rooms at the top, which have low ceilings and limited views. The central location means that you're a short walk from some good restaurants.
Grand Hotel Corallaro
This hotel has fairly luxurious accommodations in a panoramic spot right by the beach, a brief walk from the town center. Rooms are functional, mostly spacious, and some have balconies. Public rooms are much grander, furnished with wicker chairs, and there are terraces and lawns for sipping drinks. Yacht charters and riding excursions can be arranged. There may be a three- or six-night minimum stay, according to season.
Lush gardens and pinkish-red brick buildings with tiled roofs lend this hotel on a secluded inlet the feel of a small resort. Nibaru has all the best features of the Costa Smeralda at much lower rates than at the full-scale resorts: guest rooms are just a few yards from Nibaru's lagoonlike pool, and not much farther from some good beaches. It's an easy drive to the exclusive Pevero Golf Club and the tennis courts of Porto Cervo.
