It takes an hour to drive around the island (without stopping too much) and about four hours to cycle. If you don't want to rent a bike, most resorts offer free bikes for their guests to use.

Boating & Sailing

Bora Bora Voile. Bora Bora Voile offers circle island, two-hour, sunset, and full-day cruises on the catamaran Taaroa III. It carries 10 to 16 passengers depending on the type of cruise and is also available for charter excursions. Anau, Bora Bora, Leeward Islands. 67–64–30.

Sunsail Tahiti. Sunsail Tahiti, an Australian charter company, is based in Raiatea but cruises the areas around Bora Bora, Huahine, and Tahaa. Moana Adventure Tours. Moana Adventure Tours offers two options for keen anglers: lagoon trolling (light tackle fishing in the lagoon) and surface casting for poppers, an excursion that travels to Tupai (10 mi north of Bora Bora); this is a six-hour trip for fishermen with their own equipment. Jet Skiing

Matira Jet Tours. Spend two hours circling the island on a two-seater Jet Ski visiting a private island for a lagoon swim and watching the Jet Ski guides climb up a coconut tree to knock down a few for an impromptu snack. Matira Point, Bora Bora, Leeward Islands. 67–62–73.

Quad Biking

Matira Jet Tours. Matira Jet Tours also runs Quad Bike trips into the interior of the main island. You can do Jet Ski/quad and quad/snorkeling combinations. Quad bikes or ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) go over hills and through streams, carry two people, and are lots of fun.

Best Bets for Cruising

Little rays of sunshine. Take a snorkeling trip to swim with and feed the rays and watch the experts feed friendly reef sharks. It's a thrill you won't soon forget.

Take a ride. Rent a bicycle, scooter, car, or bugster and head off around the 32-km (20-mi) coastal road, stopping at shops and little villages along the way. If time is limited, head south from Vaitape to Matira where you'll find most of the action anyway.

Lovely lagoon. Kayak, catamaran, submarine, aquabike, jet boat, or Jet Ski—explore the lagoon however you can, it's too beautiful to miss.

Bush exploring. Take a bumpy 4WD trip up the mountainside for a sensational view of the lagoon and far-flung islands. Check out the old WWII guns along the way.

Underwater Adventures

Aquabike Aventure. You'll feel like one of the Jetsons (albeit in the water), as you motor about in your little scooter built for two. This is certainly a unique way to check out the fish. Tiputa, Bora Bora, Leeward Islands. 67–50–91.

Aqua Safari Bora Bora. This is an underwater walk wearing a diving helmet and wet suit. Participants walk on the seabed a few meters below the surface for 30 to 45 minutes. Bora Bora Submarine. You'll be singing the Beatles' classic pop song as you plunge to depths of 100 feet (30 meters) in a yellow submarine with panoramic windows. Passengers watch the sea creatures swim by in air-conditioned comfort. Nunue, south of Vaitape, Bora Bora, Leeward Islands. 30–04–01.

Bora Diving Centre & Nemo World. Bora Diving Centre & Nemo World are located in Matira and have the same owner.
