Cycling is a wonderful way to get a different view of Paris while working off all those extra calories you’ve consumed—and Vélib', a self-service bike-rental program launched by the city in 2007, makes it easy. More than 20,000 bikes are available 24/7 at some 1,800 docking stations citywide. To take advantage of the service, you must first buy a pass (1- and 7-day versions can be purchased online for €1.70 and €8, respectively). Then you simply release a bike from any station, pedal away, and return it to any station when you’re done. Individual rides lasting less than 30 minutes are free; for longer ones, minimal user fees apply.
