Wondering where to ring in the New Year? Well, you can stop searching. WalletHub has just released its ranking of 2017’s Best Places for New Year’s Eve Celebrations.
The personal finance website evaluated the 100 most populated U.S. cities in three areas: entertainment and food, safety and accessibility, and cost. Specific factors included everything from the average price of a New Year’s Eve party ticket to rain forecast for Dec. 31.
While we may no longer party like it’s 1999, there are still plenty of us who like to celebrate New Year’s Eve in style. According to WalletHub, the majority of revelers spend up to $200, on average, for the last big night out of the year. That's why planning and budgeting are key.
To save money, Rosa Malave, a hospitality-industry expert at the University of North Texas, advises those who are budget-conscious to check out second-tier destinations like Branson, Mo, or Denver, where you’ll get more bang for your buck than you would in top-tier spots such as New York and Las Vegas.
“When places are too crowded or have too many customers, such as at first-tier New Year’s Eve–celebration destinations, customer service sometimes suffers and even the residents change and are not as pleasant as they could be,” she says.
So which cities made the cut? A longtime holiday favorite, New York came out on top. Last year some 2 million partyers crammed into Times Square to usher in the new year.
