Many of the buildings in the center of High Street were constructed in the late 1800s by noted British architect Alfred Giles, and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Comfort Common and the remnants of Ingenhuetts General Store, the longest continuously-run operation in Comfort until a fire in 2006 destroyed much of its original structure. Plans to rebuild what many locals consider the heart of the town have not yet been determined.
