Just an hour-and-a-half flight from New York, Montreal is the largest French-speaking city in the world outside Paris. As a world financial center, it’s also a sleek and modern fashionista’s paradise (aside from the gothic grandeur of Notre Dame Cathedral). The Montreal Jazz Festival, one of the world’s largest, runs June 28 to July 8, with free concerts throughout the city. Fifty years ago, tens of millions of Americans helped celebrate Canada’s Centennial at Expo 67, the Montreal World’s Fair. The site is now a sprawling park, and you can still go inside the former United States Pavilion, architect Buckminster Fuller’s soaring geodesic dome.
